What scams and cybercrime are
A scam is when someone tries to trick you.
They might try to take your money.
A cybercrime is when someone uses a computer or the internet to break the law.
Stop contacting the scammer
A scammer is a person who does a scam.
Stop calling or messaging the scammer.
Do not send them more money.
Contact your bank
Contact your bank if the scammer has your bank details.
Your bank can help protect your account and cards.
Change your passwords
Change the passwords for your devices.
Change the passwords for your online accounts.
Use a different password for each account.
Write down the scam details
Write down information about the scammer.
This might include their phone number, email address or website.
This information can help stop the scammer.
Report the scam
Report the scam as soon as you can.
Call NSW Fair Trading on 13 32 20 if the scam started in NSW.
You can also report the scam to NSW Fair Trading online.
For scams outside NSW, report the scam to Scamwatch.
Report cybercrime online
Use ReportCyber to report a cybercrime.
ReportCyber will send your report to the right organisation.
Get support
Tell someone you trust what happened.
Your family, friends or support person might be able to help.
Contact ID Support NSW if someone has stolen your identity.
Your identity is the information that proves who you are.
