Figma UI Kit

The NSW Design System Figma UI Kit improves design handoff, enables intuitive inspection of design system offerings, and supports seamless collaboration across stakeholders.

Using with documentation

The Figma UI Kit should not be used in isolation. Our core styles and components go beyond just look-and-feel. To produce quality user experiences, read the documentation and understand the usage and behaviour of each style and component.

How to access the Figma UI Kit

There are three ways to use the NSW Design System in Figma. The right option for you depends on how you need to interact with the library:

  1. General access (View-only) - Anyone can access the Figma UI Kit in view-only mode. This allows users to browse the library but does not allow inspecting components or copying assets into projects.
  2. Inspect access - Users who require the ability to inspect components (for specifications, styles, and measurements) should request access by emailing [email protected].
  3. Offline Figma library extension (Most comprehensive) - Users who need to integrate the NSW Design System library into their Figma projects must request access to the **static, offline version** of the UI Kit. This version will not receive automatic updates.

Option 1: General access (View-only)

Anyone can access the UI Kit without signing in to a Figma account. However, this method does not allow component inspection or copying elements into other files.

Option 2: Inspect access

If you need to inspect elements (for development handoff or style details), request access by emailing:

Option 3: Offline Figma library extension

If your Figma team is separate from the Digital NSW team and you need to integrate the NSW Design System as a Figma library, a static offline version is available. You will need to manually add this version as a local library.

Request Access:

To receive the latest version of the NSW Digital Design System offline file, email:

Steps to install once received:

  1. Download the .fig file provided by the NSW Digital Team.
  2. Open Figma and go to FileImport.
  3. Select the downloaded .fig file and import it into your organisation’s workspace.
  4. Once imported, enable it as a library:
    • Go to AssetsLibrary and toggle it on.
    • Ensure your team has the correct permissions to access the file.

Version updates

  • Inspect Access users will always see the latest version.
  • Offline Library users should check the GitHub repository for updates and manually request new versions.

Getting started with Figma

Figma provides useful guides and tutorials:

Sharing the file

  1. From your Figma dashboard, select the NSW Design System project in the left-hand panel. (Do not share from within the file itself, as this will limit access.)
  2. Click Share in the top-right corner.
  3. Enter the email addresses of your team members.

For those who only need to view the UI Kit, use the View-Only Design System Figma UI Kit.
